Join us for a night of performances to benefit Triple Canopy. Steady Orbits will feature an interactive scale model of the solar system by Matt Mullican; a storytelling and lightbox performance by Ellie Ga; a video program organized by curator Gary Carrion-Murayari; DJ sets by Javelin and Jon Santos; performances by the ensemble Ne(x)tworks, which will play a selection from Karlheinz Stockhausen's Aus den sieben Tagen (1968), and the band Psychobuildings, with a set designed by Ryan Johnson and Kevin Zucker. Steady Orbits also marks the launch of Triple Canopy issue 10 and the magazine's redesign.

Gary Carrion-Murayari is an associate curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art; he co-curated 2010, the museum's most recent biennial. His writing has appeared in numerous publications, including Flash Art, Domus, and The Huffington Post.
Dexter Sinister is a design and publishing collaborative opened by David Reinfurt and Stuart Bailey in 2006 as a “Just-in-Time Workshop & Occasional Bookstore” in a Ludlow Street basement in New York; they were later joined by Sarah Crowner. Dexter Sinister combines the characteristically distinct identities of designer, producer, publisher, and distributor. They propose a heteroclite counterpart to the dominant one-size-fits-all, Fordist, assembly-line style of print production and distribution. In contrast to the juggernaut of contemporary publishing and its economies of scale, the workshop "avoids waste by working on demand, utilizing local cheap machinery, considering alternate distribution strategies, and collapsing distinctions of editing, design, production, and distribution into one efficient activity.”
Ellie Ga is a Brooklyn-based artist. She has been a resident aboard the Arctic research vessel Tara, at New York's Explorer Club, and at the Newark Museum of Art. She has performed and exhibited her work at Galerie de Jour (Paris), Montanaberlin Gallery (Berlin), P.S.1 (New York), and Projekt 0047 (Oslo). She is a founding member of Ugly Duckling Presse, which has published her books Classification of a Spit Stain and Three Arctic Booklets. She has received grants from the Fund for Contemporary Art, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Jerome Foundation. Her work will is included in the exhibition Nous ne Notons pas les fleurs, dit le géographe, opening at Bétonsalon in Paris in October; her solo show at New York City's Bureau gallery opens in January 2011.
Javelin is Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford. The group's debut album, No Más, was released in 2010 by Luaka Bop.
Ryan Johnson is a Brooklyn-based artist. His work has been exhibited in solo shows in New York at Guild & Greyshkul and Zach Feuer Gallery, and in Turin at Franco Soffiantino Arte Contemporanea; Description of a Struggle opens October 21 at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. He was also included in MoMA PS1's Greater New York in 2005.
Matt Mullican was born in 1951 and currently resides in Berlin. Working in performance, installation, digital technology, and sculpture, and employing tools ranging from hypnosis to cartography, Mullican seeks to develop a cosmological system based on his personal visual and symbolic vocabulary. His work has been exhibited extensively in the U.S. and internationally.
Ne(x)tworks is a collaborative ensemble of musicians creating and interpreting work that features a dynamic relationship between composition and improvisation. In performance and recordings, the group locates pathways into various types of notation systems and interfaces, striving for a meaningful dialogue with the past, present, and future of creative music. The group's repertoire ranges from compositions by its members to the open scores of the New York School to work by composer-performers such as AACM. Ne(x)tworks was formed in 2002 in New York City.
Psychobuildings is a Brooklyn-based band comprised of Peter LaBier, Peter Schuette, Juan Pieczanski and Emily Panic. The group released its first two 7" singles in 2010, on All Hands Electric and Transparent.
Jon Santos is a New York City-based artist, designer, and DJ. He is an adjunct professor at Pratt Institute and a principal of Common Space, a multidisciplinary creative office.
Kevin Zucker is a New York-based artist. His work has been exhibited in solo shows internationally and, in New York, at Greenberg Van Doren, Mary Boone Gallery, and Zach Feuer Gallery; it has also been featured in group exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, New Museum, and MoMA PS1, and the Moore Space.
